AlexanderApostolidesRBS Baltic Finance Center held a roundtable on “Impact on financial service provision and availability in the Baltic countries due to enhanced sanctions on Russia and Belarus” on September 30, 2024.

The discussion, held under Chatham House rules, was to explore the potential impact on financial services access and availability, with participants in non-financial and financial business from the Baltic area.

Businesses were able to exchange their challenges and suggest potential ways of mitigating issues regarding reduced financial services access and availability since the invasion of Russia in Ukraine and the escalation of sanctions by the EU. The overall results of the discussion will be used as part of an upcoming research concept note by the Baltic Finance Center.

Key takeway form the discussion was – urgent need to enhance knowledge and education about sanctions processes across Financial Authorities, service providers, and businesses. Improved communication between stakeholders is crucial.
